Giraldo Diomar

Born in Colombia, South America, Giraldo studied drama from 1979, graduating in 1984. In the same year, he started working professionally with Taller Teatral el Globo, contemporary dance, ballet, corporal expression and music till 1989. He studied for three years for a full-time dance and choreography diploma course at Lewisham College, London.

 In 1994, Diomar co-founded artLAT Arte Latino Cultural Project in London. He toured with acclaimed Bolivian music group Rumillajta from 1995–98. In 1998, Diomar also performed in the Danza Colombia! National Tour, which was the first visit to the UK of a professional Colombian dance company. Other artistic achievements have been the participation in Madonna’s film Evita and the choreography for Dance, a film commissioned by Channel 4.

Giraldo teaches Argentinean tango in London and elsewhere in the UK and has been invited to teach at tango clubs in Europe, and recently visited Hong Kong where he was invited by the local tango club to teach tango.

 He co-choreographed and danced in Subitango, a concert performance touring production running since 2001 to date, in collaboration with Tango Siempre music quartet touring the UK and Ireland. In 2004, Diomar became the leading performer in ArtLAT’s productions Tiempo de Tango and Romance d’Carnaval that toured the UK in 2004 and 2006.

 Giraldo has travelled to Buenos Aires to further his training with recognised masters like Osvaldo Zotto and Roberto Herrera, Carlos and Rosa Perez and Raul Bravo.

In the last five years, Diomar has placed himself in large productions such as: soloist dancer in UK tours Subitango and Tango Motion, produced by Tango Siempre UK; dancer and co-choreographer in Argentine production Transtango in 2008; in 2006 and 2005, he appeared as guest Argentinean tango dancer in the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing; and as a dancer in Carmen, directed by Sally Potter, an English National Opera production in 2007.
